Principal Investigator
Toshimichi (Toshi) Yamada
Toshi is an Assistant Research Fellow at the Institute of Cellular and Organismic Biology (ICOB), Academia Sinica. Toshi's PhD at the University of Tokyo, with Takeaki Ozawa, developed genetically encoded fluorescent probes to visualize RNA in living cells. As a postdoc with Nobuyoshi Akimitsu at the University of Tokyo, Toshi studied how RNA decay shapes gene expression dynamics. At UCSF, with Wendell Lim and Ophir Klein, Toshi engineered synthetic organizer cells that guide stem cell development through spatial and biochemical instructions. Toshi started the lab in October 2026.
